Key Features of the Project

This project transformed a tired, leaning corrugated iron boundary fence into a striking duo-tone aluminium slat feature. The design layered two distinct finishes across the fence height: Monument horizontal slats along the lower section for privacy and grounding, and Western Red Cedar woodgrain aluminium slats across the top to introduce warmth and a timber aesthetic without any of the maintenance burden. A matching Monument aluminium slat pedestrian gate with integrated lock hardware was fabricated to complete the side access. The existing corrugated asbestos fence was deteriorating, leaning outward, and visually dated against the neighbouring properties. Challenges included working around an established Duranta tree with purple flowering growth that the client wanted preserved, requiring careful panel placement and post positioning to protect the root zone while maintaining straight line and level across the full run.

Products Used in the Project

The fencing system used aluminium horizontal slat panels in three powder-coat finishes: Monument for the base panels, Shale Grey for the mid-height transition, and a woodgrain sublimation finish replicating Western Red Cedar for the top tier. All slats were fixed into aluminium post channels with concealed fixings for a clean face on both sides. Posts were 65x65mm aluminium, powder-coated to match the Monument panels, with post caps fitted. The pedestrian gate was fully welded aluminium with Monument powder coat, fitted with stainless steel hinges and a keyed lock handle set.  Materials were supplied and installed by FencrGatr’s team to manufacturer specifications.

Client Expectations and Feedback

The client was frustrated with the state of their old corrugated fence, which had been leaning progressively worse and was an eyesore against the updated home behind it. They wanted something modern that would lift the entire feel of the side yard, but we wanted to keep the established Duranta tree that had been growing along the fence line for years. FencrGatr designed the duo-tone slat system to break up the height visually and give the fence a layered, architectural quality rather than a flat wall of one colour. The woodgrain top tier was specifically chosen to complement the warm tones in the home’s exterior. Installation was completed with the Duranta left intact and already beginning to weave through the new slat gaps. The client observed the difference was night and day, and that the side of the house finally matched the rest of the renovation work they had planned.
