Key Features of the Project

This Applecross project combined modern security with architectural elegance, featuring custom-built aluminium vertical slat double gates and a bespoke laser-cut decorative panel. The double gates, powder-coated in Surfmist, were engineered with 65mm slats set vertically with precise 10–20mm spacing, achieving a balance of privacy, airflow, and contemporary style. The adjoining feature panel was laser-cut with a Cucumis pattern and finished in a Sable Core Ten colour, adding a striking sculptural element with a rusted-look. Challenges included achieving perfect alignment within a narrow carport recess and integrating two different design styles—vertical slats and organic cut steel—into a cohesive frontage. The result is a highly functional, secure, and visually stunning entry solution.

Products Used in the Project

The project used custom-fabricated aluminium slat gates (65mm slats, Surfmist powder coat) with fully welded frames, 65x65mm posts, caps, and hardware including stainless steel hinges and upgraded double-sided key locks. The decorative element was a laser-cut Cucumis panel, 3mm aluminium, powder-coated in Sable Core Ten finish, framed in a 50x50mm aluminium surround for strength. Hardware included Safetech/TruClose self-closing hinges, stainless steel butt hinges, and keyed-alike Lokk Latches. All items were measured, fabricated, and installed by FencrGatr’s installation team to manufacturer standards, ensuring durability and precision.

They requested a pet- and child-safe gate system with strong locks, as well as a decorative screen that would complement the home’s architecture.
